What a Plumber Costs in Atlanta (2026)

How plumbers here price work

Atlanta companies mostly price in one of two ways. Some quote a flat price per job from a price book once they have seen the problem: this much to clear a main line from an outdoor cleanout, this much to replace a water heater of a given size. Others charge a service or trip fee plus time and materials. Both are legitimate. What you want to know before anyone starts is which one you are getting, what the trip fee covers, and whether it is credited against the work. The figures below are the ranges commonly quoted for ordinary houses in the metro, drawn from published local cost surveys and typical price-book structure. They are not our prices; we do not set any. They move with the house, the access and the time of day, and a company that has seen your job will give you a better number than any table.

Drain clearing

A single clogged sink, tub or toilet, reachable from the fixture, is usually quoted somewhere in the low hundreds of dollars during normal hours. Main-line clearing from an accessible outdoor cleanout costs more, because it takes a bigger machine and more cable, and more again if there is no cleanout and the plumber has to pull a toilet to get in. Root cutting in a clay lateral sits in the same range as a main-line clearing, with the caveat that it will need doing again.

Hydro jetting and camera inspection

Published Atlanta figures put hydro jetting at roughly $350 to $600 for most houses, more for long or badly fouled lines. Camera inspections are commonly a few hundred dollars on their own, and some companies fold one into a main-line clearing at a reduced price. If you are deciding whether a lateral needs replacing, the camera is the cheapest information you can buy.

Sewer lateral repair and replacement

This is where the spread gets wide, and where intown lots cost more than the national averages suggest.

Spot repair

Digging down to one or two failed joints and replacing those sections is commonly in the low-to-mid thousands, depending on depth and what has to be dug through.

Full replacement, open trench

Published Atlanta figures for sewer line work run from about $50 to $300 per foot depending on method and conditions. On a forty-foot lateral under a lawn that is a few thousand dollars; on a hundred-foot lateral eight feet deep under a driveway, with a sidewalk and part of the street to open and restore, it can be well into five figures.

Trenchless lining or bursting

Usually priced per foot and often higher per foot than trenching an open yard, but it avoids restoring driveways, walls and landscaping, which can make it cheaper overall on a crowded intown lot.

Water heaters

A like-for-like tank replacement, installed with the permit the City of Atlanta requires, is the most predictable job on this page; the heater itself is a good part of the cost and the rest is labour, haul-away and the permit. Tankless installations cost substantially more, mostly because of gas line and venting changes in older houses. Location matters: a crawlspace or attic heater takes longer than one in a garage.

What moves the price, in order

  • Access: an outdoor cleanout versus pulling a toilet; a garage heater versus a crawlspace one.
  • Length and depth of the line, and what sits on top of it: lawn, driveway, wall, a protected tree.
  • Street work: anything in the public right of way adds city coordination, traffic control and restoration.
  • Time: nights, weekends and holidays are usually charged at a higher rate.
  • Permits and inspections, which a licensed company should include and name.
  • What the camera finds once the line is open; a good quote says what happens if it is worse than expected.

How to compare two quotes

Put them side by side on scope, not total. Does each include the camera footage? The permit? Restoring the lawn, the driveway, the sidewalk? Is it a spot repair or the whole line, and does the footage justify that choice? A cheaper quote for a spot repair on a line that is failing everywhere is not cheaper. A dearer quote for a full replacement on a line with one bad joint is not safer. Ask both companies to show you the video and explain the difference.

Common questions

Why will nobody quote a sewer replacement over the phone?

Because the price depends on length, depth and what is on top of the line, and none of that is visible without a camera and a locate. A firm price sight unseen is either padded or will change on the day.

Is the trip fee credited against the repair?

Often, but not always. Ask before the visit.

Are after-hours rates always higher?

Usually. If the water is off and nothing is getting worse, ask whether the repair can wait until normal hours.
